DESCRIPTION:
Completed in two phases, the first in the fall of 2009 and the second in the summer of 2011, the three-story Wellness Facility at UTC is designed to accommodate recreational and fitness programs for all UTC students, as well as faculty and recent alumni. At the core of the facility is a large open gymnasium accommodating two full-size basketball courts capable of being reconfigured into three volleyball courts or four badminton courts. The first phase of the building also houses a large fitness area with aerobics machines, free weights and resistance machines; classrooms; rooms for aerobics classes; space devoted to outdoor activities; and rock climbing and bouldering structures. The second phase addition to the Wellness Facility consists of a recreational aquatics center incorporating a lap pool; a lazy river feature that can be used as a kayaking course; a water slide; a large deck; and other aquatic recreational features.
The exterior is clad in brick, composite metal panels and curtain wall, with articulation of pilasters and gables reflecting the designs of other newer campus facilities. A strong tower at the northwest corner helps frame a primary entrance to the UTC campus.
