Tivoli Theater Renovation
Chattanooga, TN
CLIENT:
City of Chattanooga
COMPLETION:
1987
SIZE:
59,000 sq. ft.
DESCRIPTION:
Since it opened its doors in 1921, the Tivoli had been used as a movie house, and periodically as a performing arts and vaudeville venue.
In 1985, a major renovation was begun to transform the Tivoli into a fully functional and modern performing arts facility while restoring its former granduer. Its many ornamental plaster castings and other artistic features were painstakingly refurbished through an elaborate process of cleaning, plastering, painting, gilding, and repair. New seating, curtains, dressing rooms, green room, toilets, handicap accessibility, loading dock, and stage extensions were all incorporated. Theatrical and general lighting, amplified sound, rigging, acoustical treatments, electrical, and HVAC systems were all repaired, replaced or added - all of which helped to transform the Tivoli into a uniform and coordinated facility of theatrical elegance, which performers and audiences thoroughly enjoy.
