School Chapel
Chattanooga, TN
CLIENT:
Baylor School
COMPLETION:
1992
SIZE:
36,000 sq. ft.

DESCRIPTION:
The Baylor Chapel, completed in 1992, was initially conceived as an addition to the original 1927 Alumni Chapel, which now serves as a two-level narthex.
The new Chapel, which has a rated seating capacity of almost 1,000 - not including the chancel - was intended to accommodate the entire student body. On the lower floors, the structure also houses a board room, a lecture hall, and a number of classrooms. The design of the building faithfully reflects the collegiate gothic style of the original that blends with the surrounding campus to create a coherent whole.
