Memorial Auditorium Renovation
Chattanooga, TN
CLIENT:
City of Chattanooga
COMPLETION:
1991
SIZE:
105,000 sq. ft.
DESCRIPTION:
The Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Auditorium, locally known as the Memorial Auditorium, was originally constructed as a flat-floor facility with an adjoining stage, to serve as a venue for a wide variety of entertainment functions.
The flat exposition floor has now yielded to a tiered seating chamber. The main auditorium now serves as the largest theatrical style entertainment venue in Chattanooga, and provides a popular location for many functions from high school graduation ceremonies to popular off-Broadway performances and major entertainment groups. There is a smaller theater on an upper floor, which among many other functions, serves as a location for religious services and smaller theatrical performances. The public portions of the facility, along with the stage area and its ancillary facilities, have undergone many improvements in the years following the renovation.
The process has transformed the venerable old auditorium into a functional and viable facility that will continue to serve the public well into the future.
