EPB Office Building
Chattanooga, TN
CLIENT:
Electric Power Board
COMPLETION:
2007
SIZE:
135,000 sq. ft.
DESCRIPTION:
The EPB Office Building was constructed at the downtown intersections of Broad Street, Market Street and M. L. King Boulevard to serve as EPB’s Corporate Headquarters. The design was intended to express permanence as well as respond to its context in the Miller Park District. Its two-story lobby was conceived to be a public asset and the point of contact between EPB and its customers. Situated at the primary confluence of Chattanooga’s public transportation system, it serves as a gateway monument at a primary entrance to the urban core.
Sustainable construction practices were critical to the projects success. The building design optimizes the use of natural daylight, featuring a six-story atrium with all work spaces having direct views either to the exterior through windows or to daylight captured by the atrium clerestory and skylight. Other sustainable strategies include brownfield reclamation; access to public transportation; use of durable, recycled and recyclable materials; energy efficiency and provisions for natural ventilation.
