DESCRIPTION:
Completed in 2006, the Covenant Presbyterian Church project included a campus master plan, the addition of a 1,100 seat sanctuary, 11,000 square feet of new office and classroom space, and renovation of the existing sanctuary into a fellowship hall. The Church had three main objectives for their project: a sanctuary that looked and felt traditional both in its layout and in its place in the community; an inspirational building for the congregation in their celebration of the glory of God; and lastly, a permanent structure that would last for generations.
To achieve their goals, the project utilized traditional materials of stone, brick, and wood to add warmth and permanence to the feel of both the interior and the exterior. The new cruciform sanctuary rises 34 feet above the heads of worshipers and is wrapped in wood paneling. The new building was placed in front of their existing facility which produced a traditional courtyard between old and new, and allowed for clerestories on both sides of the nave. A new drive-through canopy was added which connects to a gracious lobby that acts as a hub for the sanctuary, classrooms, offices, fellowship hall, and planned future gymnasium addition.
